PS3 Sales Reach 50 million

Sony Computer Entertainment have announced that worldwide PS3 sales have hit a whopping 50 million. To add to the good news, the Move controller system has notched up eight million sales to date.
Surely good new for Sony, who must now be well on the way to recouping their huge development costs.

Gran Turismo 5 and a Free PS3

Gran Turismo 5 is set to be released on the PlayStation 3 console on 2nd November 2010 and will be the first GT game that will feature an online multiplayer mode. The multiplayer mode support up to 16 players.
Another first is the inclusion of damage modelling for Gran Turismo 5. The variations of damage on the vehicle will depend on whether it is a standard or premium vehicle. Other new elements in GT5 are weather effects and night racing. 3D GT5 gaming could also come to the PS3.

Gran Turismo 5 will contain 20 different tracks and approximately 950 – 1000 cars. Dunsfold Park, the home of the BBC’s Top Gear test track is one of the locations that will be included in the game. Players of Gran Turismo Prologue will be able to export cars to Grand Turismo 5.
Sony demonstrate motion controller at E3

Sony has been showing off its new motion controller at the E3 technology show. The demonstration involved a Sony engineer using the controller with a monitor replicating his movement using various objects including a tennis racquet, sword and a torch. The new controller is due for release in the Spring and will be for use with the PS3 games console.
Sony reveal PSP Go

Sony have revealed a new PSP which will be released for sale on sale 1 October in the US, Canada and Europe for around $249. It will see a Japanese on 1 November. The PSP Go is around half the size of the current PSP and included a large PS3 style controller that is hidden under a sliding LCD screen. The new PSP also has Wi-Fi connectivity and 16GB of memory.
New Xbox 360 control system revealed

The first major news event of this years E3 convention was the revealing of Microsoft’s new control system for the Xbox 360 where the player becomes the controller. Project Natal uses a 3D motion-sensing camera that translates the players movement onto on-screen action. The system is said to feature a voice recognition system.
Duke Nukem developer 3D Realms shuts down

3D Realms, founded in 1987 and responsible for first-person shooter titles Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3D have ceased trading. The company was working on Duke Nukem Forever at the time of its closure. Take-Two, publisher of the Duke Nukem titles retains rights to the games but has stated they will not be funding any further developments to the series.
PSP2 to be released this year?

Website Pocket Gamer has claimed a source inside the PSP2 development team has confirmed that the device is well advanced and should be released by Christmas this year. The new unit is reported use a large touchscreen that will slide open revealing the traditional PSP control buttons. Whilst Sony hasn’t confirmed any details on the PSP2 we would expect an announcement to be made at the E3 event this June. Stay tuned for more information.

Capcom has sold over 400,000 copies of Resident Evil 5 on the PlayStation 3 in Japan. The game hit the shops on 12 March and has managed to outsell the same game on the Xbox 360.

Developer Capcom have today announced that the Resident Evil franchise has achieved over 40 million worldwide sales since its first appearance way back in 1996.
